Envelopes & Day-Of Event Materials

Hand addressed envelopes and seating cards are a time honored tradition, and a wonderful way to show your guests you value them.

  • The earlier you get in touch about a potential order the better, and the more likely it will be that I’ll still have openings in my calendar. At minimum, I recommend contacting me one to two months in advance of your mailing or event date, especially for large projects. You don’t need to have all your project details worked out prior to scheduling an order.

Turnaround time can vary a great deal depending on the size of your order and what other commitments I’ve already booked. Specific start and completion dates will be set when we confirm your order. Most card and envelope addressing orders can be completed in one to two weeks.

  • Any order that is placed less than 14 days out from the required completion date is considered a rush order. I accept these projects on a case-by-case basis with a 50-100% rush fee depending on the project specifics and the timeline.

  • I work full time out of my home studio in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago. Deliveries and pickups of materials can be done in person pretty much any time as long as we arrange it in advance, or I’m also able to receive courier drops and shipments from all major mail carriers. Completed orders can be shipped nationally, or internationally via USPS, UPS or Fedex for the cost of postage, packaging materials and insurance (if desired).

  • Not all papers are created equal when it comes to calligraphy. Some have rough and textured surfaces that look beautiful but will limit the styles of calligraphy that can be written on them. Other papers are not made to handle fluid ink and may bleed like a permanent marker on a paper towel. It’s a good idea to inform your supplier that you’re planning on having calligraphy done, and ask about ink friendly options. If you’d like to have papers tested, I include ink tests for a group of up to three different kinds of paper/envelope stock for all clients with confirmed orders.

  • I am human, which means mistakes will happen. To ensure I’m able to deliver your full order without errors I require at least 15% overage for the final volume of envelopes, cards, or paper goods required for your order. Any extra materials left over once your order is complete will be returned to you upon request.

  • All guest lists, address lists or other source texts need to be provided in a single file and in a digital format. Google Docs, Sheets, MS Word or Excel are all acceptable options. I do not accept pdfs, photos, scans or any kind of handwritten text source files.

All text and line breaks need to be formatted as they are intended to occur in the finished work (including punctuation and abbreviations etc...). I highly recommend you have at least one other person check your file for errors prior to sending it to me. Typos, mistakes and misspellings have a way of always sneaking in. I do my best to catch any errors within provided texts, but things that are obviously incorrect to you may not be so obvious to me, and corrections requested after I've begun work are charged as additional items.

  • Color options vary depending on the type of paper being used and whether or not the ink needs to be waterproof. I’m always happy to custom color match inks whenever possible. The best way to get the closest color match possible is to send me a physical swatch or print sample of your desired color.

“Scripts” and “hands” are the calligraphic equivalent of fonts and typefaces in typography and design. Calligraphers learn different scripts and hands like you might learn to speak a foreign language.

I am most proficient in traditional pointed pen scripts, but I also offer a variety of broad edge scripts, monoline and block lettering options.

I also offer font matching. Many script style fonts are based on traditional calligraphy and can be matched fairly well.
